Swain County Family Resource Center (SCFRS) is a (charitable) organization dedicated to helping families. We serve families in Swain and Graham counties and the Cherokee Indian Reservation. Our services include helping provide food, clothing, shelter, utility assistance, career readiness and family support for the elderly.

An important additional service we help give families is the parent support group and parenting classes for those with children age 0-15. These classes are provided in collaboration with local churches, schools and the Department of Social Services.

We also help provide crisis intervention. When families are in crisis the SCFRS works together with Community agencies and partners to help families get back on their feet.

While every effort is made to help those who are struggling, we also, and partly for that reason, try to eliminate waste and duplication of services. Every client who wants assistance needs to fill out an application. This information is then cross referenced with information from the Department of Social Services and other service providers. In so doing we have found we can eliminate waste and giving to those who have already received assistance. We believe this is an important part of honoring our donors and those who give us help and financial assistance.
